My Name Is Khan

My Name is Khan is a movie that takes viewers on a journey.

Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) is a Muslim man who has suffered from a disease Asperger syndrome. This syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder and affects a person’s behavior and perception. Loud noises make him nervous; the color yellow freaks him out and he unable to express his emotions clearly. But because of good cognitive skills, he learns facts quickly. While some find him endearing, others think he is rude.

When his mother died, Rizwan moves to America to live with his younger brother and his wife. Even as Rizwan finds it hard to adjust to the new and busy environment, he gets a job as ‘a shop to shop’ beauty product salesman.

He meets a single mom, Mandira (Kajol) and falls in love with her. She was taken by Rizwan's honesty, she buys a whole range of his products and a romance ensues between the two. Rizwan's intelligent mind charms Mandira’s young son Sameer. Then they get married.

All's going well, until the September 11th terror attack on America. Their lives change forever. A communal bashing incident at school leads to Sameer death. Mandira blames Rizwan for their misfortune and regrets having the last name Khan.

Mandira leaves Rizwan and he embarks on a journey through America to meet the president with the message "My Name is Khan and I am not a terrorist".

The film touches over a very sensitive issue of religious distinction and people differentiation. A great moment in the film is when Razwan taught by his mother that one's religion does not differentiate him from another. The only difference between people is that there are good people and there are bad people.

Razwan's massage is a Message of love and peace to all people. A Message to say that people are different but they have equal rights.

I like to end with this quote:  “Love life and life will love you back. Love people and they will love you back.” By Arthur Rubinstein.

Apart from the lead pair the cast includes Jimmy Shergill, Sonya Jehan, Arjun Mathur, Zarina Wahab, Tanay Chheda, Arif Zakaria, Parvin Dabas,Navneet Nishan, Christopher B.Duncan, Shane Harper...

The movie is directed by Karan Johar, script by Shibani Bathija, and created by Hiroo Yash Johar and Gauri Khan.
