Dubai

One of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates on the Arabian Peninsula, and it's sometimes called "Dubai City" to distinguish it from the emirate.

The ruler of Dubai is Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the Vice-President of the federation of the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is the second largest emirate in the federation after Abu Dhabi. The emirate is located on the Persian Gulf, southwest of Sharjah and northeast of Abu Dhabi.

 

Dubai's enormous constructions and developments in various industries through innovative real estate projects, sports events, shopping festivals and conferences have attracted world-wide attention for Dubai City, establishing it as the world's leading business hub.

Dubai has a rich cultural scene with art museums, film festivals (Dubai film festival) and performing arts centers, in addition to being a shopper's delight, hosting the annually held Dubai Shopping Festival. Dubai is a city of excitement waiting to be explored holding the potential for one of the most significant international cities of the 21st century.

Geography

Geographical coordinates: 25° 15' 8" North, 55° 16' 48" East

Dubai is located on the Persian Gulf, in the northeast of the United Arab Emirates. It is the second largest emirate with an urban area of 3885 sq km and the city is roughly 35 sq km

Climate

The line of the Tropic of Cancer crosses through the UAE, causing the weather of Dubai to be warm and sunny. In winter it has an average daytime temperature of 25°C, and 5C in deserts or mountains, but at night it becomes relatively cool. Whereas in summer, it becomes very hot and humid with temperatures reaching mid 40’s.

Population

Dubai’s population stands at an estimation of 1.5 million, with three quarters of the population being male. The expatriate population comprises of mostly Indians supplying the city with cheap labour as well as filling professional positions; other nationalities are from various Arabic countries. Furthermore, because of the high demand in workers primarily in the tourism sector, many people from the Philippines, China, Indonesia and Malaysia have become residents in the city.

Dubai Currency

Dubai currency is known as Arab Emirate Dirham in the global market and is denoted by AED. Locally the Dubai currency is denoted by 'Dh' and called Dirham.

Dubai Culture

Culture in Dubai is rooted in Islamic traditions that form UAE National lifestyles. It is highly important when tourists visit Dubai to respect and behave appropriately, as the minority groups of Emiratis are very protective to their culture and traditions.
