He is a great king, noble knight and brave hero. Who is this person that hate wars but he had to fight the aggressors who came to attack a safe town "Jerusalem"? Salah Uddin Yusuf Bin Ayub bin Shati bin Marwan, Abu AlMuthaffar Ayyubi Born in Tikrit in Iraq (1138-1193). Character: We talk first about his character ,he was a devout muslim to whom Islam meant everything, he would never miss his daily five times prayers even when he was ill, and had a dislike for people who tried to instill free-thinking, unnecessary debate and controversy into the doctrines of Islam. He truly loved the Quran and wept upon hearing it read.
Growing Up: During his youth he was a quiet methodical thinker given more to religious study than military ambition. As a child he was taught the recitation of the Holy Quran, the Arabic language and the shariah. This basis proved to be effective in his middle age. His father served Nur ad-Din Mahmud and so did his uncle, then when he became in the service of the Syrian ruler Nur ad-Din. . He was brought up by his noble father and talented uncle, Asad-ud-din Shirkhu. Saladin was a very intelligent and noble person and that from his growing up, he learned sorts of welfare, doing services and painstaking in wars and Nur Ed-dein. Military Muslim Character: After Nur ad-Din's death in 1174 and the end of Fatimid State, Saladin founded the Ayyuban state. The Crusaders were not happy by Saladin’s increasing power and success. Uniting their forces, they planned a decisive attack on Muslim area. They represent the maddest and the longest war in the history of mankind, Battle of Hittin took place between them and Muslims, Muslims won under the leadership of Saladin. Thousands of Crusaders were arrested. Saladin treated the prisoners with tolerance. In his battles against these European crusaders, he often had the aid of eastern Christians, who were as much the victims of the western armies as anybody else in the eastern lands
Real Situations: He was kind and gentle, one to treat everybody featly. Though above all this was his duty to Allah and the jihad. Baha-uddin (rahmatullahi alaihi) his faithful secretary stated: "I never knew him to show any anxiety about the numbers and strength of the enemy. He would listen to plans of all kinds and discuss their consequences without any excitement or loss of composure.” In 1187 CE, Saladin conquered Jerusalem. Thousands of Crusaders were arrested. However, when their mothers, sisters, and wives appealed to Saladin, he released them. Many crusaders were ransomed. However, he paid for many of them. In addition, he provided them transport, etc. He allowed neither massacre nor looting. He gave free pardon to all citizens. He even arranged for their traveling. He granted freedom to Christians to leave the city if they paid a small tribute. Saladin paid it, himself, for about ten thousand poor people. His brother paid it for seven thousand people. Saladin also allocated one of the gates of the city for people who were too poor to pay anything that they leave from there.
His Death: He died in Damascus in 1193; he had liberated almost all of Palestine from the armies of England, France, Burgundy, Flanders, Sicily, Austria and, in effect, from the power of the Pope.
